Join the Zombie Run

Join the Zombie Run

Date: 2013-11-29
Zombie Run is 5km racecourse of gut-wrenching, blood-pumping, sweat-dripping fear, which will debut in Durban on 30 November 2013, for the most exhilarating 5K of your life if you survive.

The themed race is not your typical 5K trail run, unless of course, your trail is infested with an army of marauding Zombies.

With 2 events already completed in Gauteng, over R40, 000 has been donated to various environmental organisations, including the Endangered Wildlife Trust's Carnivore Conservation.

Program, Freeme Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, BirdLife SA's Important Bird Areas project and other smaller entities. The Durban event will be focusing on local organisations such as Durban Beach Clean Up, Giba Gorge Environmental Precinct and Monkey Helpline.

The Zombie Run is result of the hard-work and passion of Carol Willis, race director for Zombie Run South Africa. "I am so enthusiastic about bringing this event to Durban and with the partnership of the team at Durbanite, this is turning into one very exciting day."

"Proudly local Durbanite, has helped turn this event into what promises to be the most memorable, with make-up artists, fantastic prizes, a market and even a fashion show."

The market is coordinated by Whacky Market, a community market with food, art and craft stalls, that pops up all over the Dolphin Coast. Their mission is to provide a platform for creative and small businesses to showcase their product to the public. The fashion show will be proudly showcased by Simply You-nique, and all in all the day offers visitors a jam-packed event.

What makes The Zombie Run so different than other racing events?

"The race really focuses on story. Like a ride at a theme park, the race creates an alternate reality over an otherwise mundane experience. The focus is placed on runner or zombie experience, and a handful of obstacles designed not be a physical challenge but more of an obstruction to slow runners down, make them vulnerable to attack and generate more heart-pumping adrenalin." , says Willis.
