What's the issue?

What's the issue?

Author: Tomas Yoko

I am so proud of all those South African's who have bravely refused to buy an eToll tag. I would rather spew on myself than support the total rip off of our country's tax coffers that the whole eToll saga represents. Anyway, living in South Africa you have to be brave, what with the threats that we receive from the likes of Minister Cwele, threatening to have us over a barrel if we print pictures of Nkandla. Well I am so proud of those newspaper editors who went ahead in defiance of this totally ridiculous and outrageous threat and abuse of power and encroachment on your freedom of speech and flagrant indication of guilt. The Cape Argus, The Cape Times, The Sowetan, The Times, Beeld, and more. The SA National Editors Forum SANEF also pronounced their defiance of this ridiculous threat. Who do they think they are?

But hey, we are brave South Africans, brave enough to stand up for our rights and brave enough to bring about miracles. Brave enough to go without an Etoll tag.

You don't even have o be brave, look at Krechir, he can get away with almost anything, all you need is a few hawks in your pocket. Brave enough to stare into the face of SANRAL's Nazir Alli and Cwele and say, we know our rights.

But hey, maybe I claim too much as it seems you have to be brave to live in this world today. Just as Obomber stikes a deal with Iran over nuclear development, America flies B-52 bombers over a Chinese island without informing China. Isreal is not comfortable about the deal and Syria have planned talks with no agenda between the ruling government and the rebel leaders in January. Could they not get together sooner? January? Holidays first? What? I suppose a meeting with no agenda is just a show to say hey, look we are trying to do something. How many people will die before they meet in January I wonder?

Anyway we have to be brave no matter where we live. More strikes planned in January, our economy slumped to a four year low, estimates of a total of 31 Billion Rands wasted by government. If that is not scary, then scary movie is also not scary.

The American and UK administrations are scared witless that Snowden is still hanging onto a 'doomsday' collection of classified material while busses are touring American cities with messages of thanks to him.

So we can handle our fears, make black humour jokes about them. (No that is not a racial slur, it refers to the type of humour not any skin colour) You know, laugh in the face of death in an effort to dilute the fear we feel.

I blame the leadership, it is rotten through and through and something that Pope Francis said recently highlights my point, "Not to share wealth with the poor is to steal." He touts capitalism as the 'new tyranny' and I fear he may be right.
