I was saying that if America can have a black President, then why not South Africa have a white woman as President. With the ruling party openly playing dirty by actively going about making the Western Cape ungovernable, the party with it's moral integrity still intact, in my opinion, should be the party to rule our country. Our Labour Minister, Mildred Oliphant seemed to be taking her time about taking decisive action to stop the farm labour unrest in the region.
My adversary countered that it was not the ruling parties fault that the labor was striking and I said that unfortunately for the ruling party, because they threatened to make the province ungovernable, the blame was to be laid squarely at their door and Mildred's lack of action just made the ruling party look totally responsible for this debacle.
This sparked an outrage and his eyes reflected an anger that reminded me why we should not discuss sex, religion or politics at a dinner party. What's left to discuss? I asked myself silently and countered his next attempt at making a sensible argument.
"South Africa is a one party state, and all Helen and her cronies are doing is allowing the ANC to do what they are doing to the economy under the disguise of South Africa being a democracy. We're not a democracy that is a falacy. South Africa is a one party state." I had to grin inwardly because now he was arguing my case.
Well news for him, the WASPs are coming. No, not the White Anglo Saxon Protestants, the new WASPs are a political party that announced itself in December and is about to launch itself in March. Their acronym stands for Workers and Socialist Party. Here we go, they maintain, as one of their strategies, to nationalise the mines. My head sinks into my hands, when are we all going to realise that this is not a solution. Nationalise the Banks maybe, but the mines? I don't think that will work. I speak in ignorance here when I say that I doubt whether any parastatal is being run at optimum productivity and economic performance. Look at SAA, ESKOM, the municipalities Can you tell that I have a very low level of confidence in our government? Our country is facing serious economic and labour challenges and our politicians are still playing the power struggle game.
Then there is the social debacle surrounding Gillian's Schutte's "Dear White People" letter and the maniac responses from some maniac journalists with their skewed perspectives on history and what it means to be white. First we must learn to be human and leave our bitterness and injustices that were brought upon us by exceptionally bad leadership behind us.
So if you can't stand the heat, then there is a new galaxy that has just been discovered. NGC 6872 is the largest spiral galaxy known to man. Perhaps you can go there.
