SA Juniors dominates in Junior Surfing International

Members of the 2012 South African Junior Team dominated the results in the Reunion Island South Africa Junior International challenge which was completed in good surf and torrential rain at New Pier in Durban recently.

Over 100 Under 18 girls and boys representing the St Leu Surf Club of Reunion Island, the South African Juniors Team, the South African Junior Invitation Team, hosts Kwazulu-Natal Central Surfriders association and Southern KZN Surfing Association, competed in the two day event.

The South African Junior Team leaves for the ISA World Junior Championships in Panama in just under a month where they will take on surfers from 30 countries over 10 days.

In the Under 18 Boys Final Slade Prestwich was outstanding, posting a 9 point and a 9.5 wave score to push fellow SA team member Dylan Lightfoot into second place. Mikey Venter, another member of the SA Team, was third and talented Davey Gouws of Southern KZN came fourth. Matt Mc Gillivray made it a double for the SA Team when he took honours in the U16 Boys Final, beating Shane Sykes of KZN Central into the runner up spot. Lucas Jannier of Reunion was third and Slater Rudling of Southern KZN came fourth.

Chanelle Botha made it three in a row for Team South Africa when she beat team mates Emma Smith and Nicole Pallet into second and third place respectively in the Under 18 Girls final. SA Junior Invitation team member Gina Smith was fourth and Carryn Mc Nicol of KZN Central came fifth.The Under 16 Girls honours went the way of Teal Hogg who pushed fellow KZN Central surfer Cana Foster into second place. The talented Durban duo relegated Reunion's Alice Lemoigne into third and Courtenay Ellish of the SA Junior Invitation team came fourth.

The Under 14 Boys Final was an all Reunion Island affair. Matteo Poulet took top spot with Nils Despouy ending second. Mattis Crozon came third, Lucas Bernard was fourth and Matthieu Couret took fifth place.

Lisa Giradet and Mahe Javegny of Reunion were first and second respectively in the Under 14 Girls final.
