Solid Result for Team Ford Racing
Formato proved he was quick, right out the gate taking pole position in qualifying and a race victory in the second heat but a DNF in the first race and an incident in the final race saw him unable to continue. Meanwhile a string of solid performance from teammate Duminy saw him take second place overall for the day.
The first race got off to a strong start with Formato taking the early lead but a few laps in his front suspension arm broke and he fell back through the field. Duminy managed to keep the Ford flag flying with a hard earned third place finish.
The team worked non-stop to ready Formato's car for the second heat. He once again demonstrated his pace clinching victory ahead of Graeme Nathan and Gavin Cronje with Duminy taking fourth place.
The third and final race of the day got off to a dramatic start when Formato stalled on the start-line having lined-up on the grid in pole position. Formato was hit hard from behind, abruptly ending his race weekend. Despite Formato's misfortune Duminy put in another solid performance taking the final podium position. The overall results saw Duminy emerge in second place for the day.
"Ultimately we are happy with the results of the weekend," commented Formato after the race. "We were due to debut the all-new Focus ST's in Cape Town this weekend but we didn't feel we were ready so we chose to run last year's cars instead. Considering that all the development work has been focused on the new cars we were very happy with our pace and the results we achieved."
The next round of the championship gets underway on 06 April at the Aldo Scribante circuit in Port Elizabeth.
"We are really looking forward to debuting the new cars in PE. It's the home of Ford's Struandale Engine Plant and we always enjoy great support from all the Ford fans," added Duminy.
