Mayor lauds fighters for waving national colors abroad

Date: 2014-05-02
KwaDukuza Deputy Mayor Dolly Govender, has commended KwaDukuza fighters for waving the national flag with pride abroad saying; this is a cause for national pride and celebration.

Eight fighters ran for a trail of strength against the world heavyweights in Japans mother of all Karate competition last week.

Govender on Thursday (25/04/14) welcomed the seven fighters back home following their two day clash in Tokyo City.

'Given or taken, the blows are experience'. Govender told the team, just briefly after their final touchdown at the King Shaka International Airport.

They were the only team from Africa selected by the International Karate Organization" (IKO) to compete abroad.

'Being selected to compete with the best of the best is a quantum leap forward for the nation and this is a cause for national pride and celebration. We are proud and convinced that this tournament will result to positive spin-offs back at home', she said.

The fighters set out on a journey last week, to compete in the Kyokushin IKO Karate Tournament that is hosted by the home of the International Karate Organization.

The road to success is never easy, Govender explained 'nothing is done overnight, sports like Karate is mastered through trial and error'.
