Tambuti Furniture
These Tambuti trees are a rare witness to the South African history and they hold precious significance to the legacy.
Tambuti Furniture has existed since 1929 from what started as a small family business in Westville and soon became a sought after manufacturer of products desired by worldly luminaries, who appreciate the value of the hand carved, Tambuti wood masterpieces.
It was Tambuti Singh senior who started the furniture business in the late twenties, however when the Second World War interrupted the wood supply he needed to find local source. So together with a team of his furniture makers, Tambuti Singh senior travelled to Zululand in search of a substitute.
He came home with good news, he not only found new wood for his furniture making business, he also found a new home for the family - so the Singh family relocated to Stanger and opened their business there.
There was no doubt in Tambuti Singh's mind about what he was destined to do with his life. Following in his father's footsteps has paid off well for this staunch Sikh devotee. Together with his wife Mrs Tambuti Singh they have built a small empire celebrated by kings, presidents, judges and ordinary citizens the world over.
There is something magical about Mr Tambuti Singh; the lines of wisdom are etched gently into his face. His story telling is legendary and a visit to his showroom in KwaDukuza is a must for anyone who wants to see a craftsman performing marvels with his hands.
The Tambuti tree is not only beautiful and strong but also has magical properties that prevent sinus ailments.
