Join the Lunch Bunch on World Food Day

Join the Lunch Bunch on World Food Day

Date: 2012-10-10
Next week sees an international focus on food security around the world with World Food Day on October 16th. And you can be part of an effort to solve the problem of global hunger.

Ironically, the earth produces enough food for everyone, but an estimated 1 billion people go hungry every day. Why? Some areas have a surplus of food while others have a shortage, and fully one third of all food produced is wasted.

You can do your bit to balance this out by supporting FoodBank SA, a non profit organisation that tries to bridge that gap by linking 11 million hungry South Africans with food suppliers - whether they are retailers, farmers, charities or community organisations.

The Lunch Bunch is FoodBank's way of helping you to fight hunger - fast! On Tuesday, 16th October, think of your fellow South Africans who don't have anything to eat. Please don't buy lunch for yourself - instead pack a lunch at home and donate the money you've saved to FoodBank. To donate, go to the website https://www.foodbank.org.za and click on the 'Join the Lunch Bunch' button. FoodBank SA can provide a nourishing meal to someone who really needs it for R1.70. That means you could feed 10 people for R17, the price of an inexpensive takeaway. And of course, R34 gives a square meal to 20 hungry people.

For more information about World Food Day or FoodBank, contact keri@foodbank.org.za or telephone 082 444 4933.
