Top Gear is coming to Durban
Last week James Cooke-Priest was in Durban to launch the next Top Gear festival, which will be coming to the Moses Mabhida Stadium on June 15 and 16.
Working with the eThekweni Municipality and the KZN Provincial Government, Top Gear Live aims to attract visitors from South Africa as well as from other African countries.
MEC for Economic Development and Tourism in the KwaZulu Natal Provincial Government, Mike Mabuyakulu, spoke of the government's commitment. "It's not only about the event," he said in the media briefing at the Moses Mabida Stadium, which will once again host the event this year, "It is growing tourism in the province. Last year the Top Gear Festival exceeded expectations and had a really positive impact - as an investment it was really worthwhile, now we must build on those gains." He also said that he would like to see the Top Gear Festival grow and make Durban "The holiday destination of choice," he said.
One small dampener on the festival is the news that the Hamster may not be in attendance this year. Richard Hammond has some prior commitments that he is trying to extricate himself from, but it does not look too good. We may have to make do with Jeremy and James.
Promises of fresh material and a guest appearance by Formula 1 Champ Mika Häkkinen will have us flocking to the gates for the show.
