Nesta Nala Pots Handover

Nesta Nala Pots Handover

Date: 2015-03-20
Last week, the remaining daughters of Nesta Nala (Jabu, Thembi, and Bongi) were presented with three pots, two by their mother and one by their deceased sister Zanele. After reading the bookZulu Pottery(E. Perrill) the US collector Richard Levy became interested in collecting some of Nala's remaining work. However, in interviews with the Nala sisters during 2014, it became clear to the author, Elizabeth Perrill, that the largest lament the Nala family has is that they hold no work by their mother. Upon hearing this Mr. Levy was moved to donate three works back to the three practicing ceramist daughters of Nesta Nala. Sue Greenberg, Ingrid Lotter Smith, and Elizabeth Perril arranged for the Nala family to take possession of two pots by their mother and one piece by Zanele Nala. Unfortunately Bongi was unable to attend, but Thembi and Jabu were on hand to receive this most generous and thoughtful gift, and they are sure to treasure these special vessels.
