The KZN Blind and Deaf Society

The KZN Blind and Deaf Society

Date: 2015-06-26
The Guild of St Mary's Old Girls, with the support of main sponsor Setzkorn Health & Wealth Consulting and associate sponsors Whispering Waters, Bioharmony, Pick n Pay and Bfor, held an Italian Banquet as their annual fundraiser and donated R10000 to the KZN Blind & Deaf Society.

Now in its 75th year, the KZN Blind and Deaf Society's mission it is to ensure that all blind, partially-sighted, deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind persons take their rightful place in society as members who contribute to and benefit from society, side by side with their counterparts who do not have these disabilities.

Their successful Talk Sign Campaign raises awareness of the importance of sign language and aims to make all South African hearing people aware of, and sensitive to, the needs of people who are deaf and hard of hearing. Their goal is to fully integrate the deaf community into schools, social environments, competitive sports, in the workplace and in all aspects of life. The Talk Sign campaign aims to make South African Sign Language (SASL) South Africa's 12th official language.
