18 000 plates of food distributed

18 000 plates of food distributed

Date: 2016-10-07
On Saturday, 01 October 2016, Food For Life Tongaat (FFLT) held its 3rd Big Feed for 2106 - 72 pots of breyani was cooked and 18 000 plates of food were distributed on the day.

The cooking took place at the Brake Village Temple and the day turned out to be a huge success despite some early morning rain that threatened to wash out the event. The event showcased what FFLT is all about and our vision for a hunger-free Tongaat and achieving a step closer to our goals including declaring all schools in Tongaat hunger-free.

FFLT has a great philosophy where sponsors can not only sponsor cash or the ingredients for a pot of breyani but can also physically cook the pot of food sponsored and also help with the distribution of food. This makes the whole experience of "giving" more rewarding, satisfying and complete.

Many sponsors cooked a "hunda" or pot of food (that feeds ca. 250 people) for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Many committed to ongoing involvement to the big feeds. Cooking started bright and early at 6:30 am and by 8:30 the hard work up to then was rewarded with a delicious big breakfast.

Distribution of the food started taking place around midday to the various areas within Tongaat, Verulam, Phoenix, Stanger and Shakaskraal.

FFLT is part of Food for Life South Africa (FFLSA), which, is affiliated to Food For Life Global. FOOD FOR LIFE is a non-sectarian and non-discriminating organization that respects all religions and cultural traditions and has volunteers from all religious and racial backgrounds who are involved in feeding programs all over the world.

The next BIG FEED is planned for 12 November 2016 and the target is to cook 108 pots of food and distribute 27000 plates of food. We call upon all corporates and business houses to support and sponsor for this event. Individuals and private persons are also encouraged to sponsor a pot of breyani at a cost of R1008 per pot.
