KZN Surfer Is World Champ Again!

KZN Surfer Is World Champ Again!

Date: 2013-04-26
Umhlanga Surfer Chris Knutsen (56) claimed World Champion Title yet again recently in Equador where he won GOLD at the ISA World Masters Surfing Championships in Ecuador.

Chris (known as The Fox or Knutty) has now claimed his 4th Gold and one Silver medal on the International circuit. He has four children, and his first Gold medal was dedicated to his son Darren, his second Gold to his daughter Kristy, the third to his daughter Tia. This year he was on a mission to get a gold for his youngest son Thor - and he successfully accomplished this to bring home Gold for his little boy.

An emotional Fox said " I am just so stoked that I was able to bring home gold for Thor. All my other kids got my golds and now he has his medal too. Where to from here Well while I have the tools I will use them. I am a challenger and the enticement to defend the title is there so until I start getting rusty I will be back to compete and represent South Africa."

South Africa came 2nd overall in the Team event behind Hawaii, followed by USA then Brazil. Other SA surfers who did well were Greg Emslie (EC) who won the Masters Gold, and Heather Clarke (SKZN) and Andre Malherbe (EC) who both won silver medals.
