Shalom Interiors; Lifestyle Originators. My Family - My Pride - My Honour

Shalom Interiors; Lifestyle Originators. My Family - My Pride - My Honour

To many, the phrase Family business connotes a small or midsized company with a local focus and a familiar set of problems, such as squabbles over succession. Conventional wisdom holds that the unique ownership structure of family businesses gives them a long-term orientation that traditional public firms often lack. But beyond that, little is known about exactly what makes family businesses different. Our business is unique and very skilled, it is based on an ancient art of artisanal furniture manufacturing. The business, which started over 40 years ago was founded by 3 partners. Over the years ownership changed and today my Dad, Mr. Chris Reddy, owns it.

Being a traditional styled business, a succession plan was in place when I, Krineshen Reddy joined the company 12 years ago. The business over the years have fused the traditional artisanal skills with the modernized approach to implementing Artificial Intelligence systems into the business.

I long to improve our expertise and knowledge and am currently studying for my MBA with an elective being Artificial intelligence. We currently operate with many AI machines and have online systems, which allow us to produce at an accelerated rate. Groundbreaking projects have been the corner stone of what makes Shalom Interiors one of the most successful shop fitting and joinery companies in South Africa, with the most recent iconic installation of the Radisson Blu hotel in Umhlanga, being the highlight of post-COVID success.

Our journey began in 2020 when we had been awarded the tender for all public areas of the hotel. Our construction management company for this project was WBHO, headed by Sanjeev Nirghin, and we worked in tandem with the designers from source Iba. Our 40-year business lifespan allowed us to sustain operations even during a time of the pandemic, this project allowed us to keep providing employment to over 90 employees and small business owners. Our business eco system is built around corporate suppliers and SMME, it is an honour to contribute positively towards our economy.

The design of the Radisson Blu Hotel is unique and complex, we worked with engineers and architects to achieve structural feats that have not been seen in Durban. The reception feature bulkheads is the main feature in our perspective, it weights over 21000 tons and is suspended over 4 floors in the main reception to create a grandiose wave effect. This iconic build culminates a series of Durban's most revered hotels that we have had the privilege of giving life to, namely the Oyster Box Hotel, The Pearls of Umhlanga and now the Radisson Blu.

We are so proud of all the gems we were a part of creating, we are privileged to have made our mark on Umhlanga's Skyline, and we are honoured to have been chosen to help create these modern day marvels.
