KwaZulu Natal on call for peace and unity

KwaZulu Natal on call for peace and unity

Date: 2014-03-07
KwaZulu Natal government has asked for blessings from all faith-based organizations to give strength to the people of this province as the country celebrates 20 years of democracy this year.

Thousands of people from all walks of life gathered at the KwaDukuza Recreation Grounds and prayed with the government of KwaZulu Natal, interceding peace and unity in the province.

KwaDukuza Mayor Ricardo Mthembu today, described the mass prayer, as a remarkable intervention, saying he is convinced that the force of divine forces will point towards positive trajectories, helping the government of KwaZulu Natal grow in strength.

Members of the KwaZulu Natal Legislature, Mayors, and Councillors in collaboration with various religious groups joined in the prayer on Thursday to mark the 20th year in democracy in South Africa.

The prayer was partly aimed at putting an end to hostilities in the province and to create an environment where peace and unity thrives.

KwaZulu Natal Premier, Senzo Mchunu hopes that divine intercessions from various faith groups will support and give strength to political leadership, bring an end to instability and create a dawn of peace, before and beyond the upcoming general elections.

By his own admission, Mchunu said the province is plagued by an upsurge of political intolerance.

We are concerned about the recent spate of violent crimes in the province. Government is taking vigorous steps to address political intolerance as more and more arrests are being made.  By holding this prayer, we are asking for guidance from the almighty in serving our people. 'We give the almighty the platform to make us wiser, because we know that he is wise, therefore we need that wisdom,' said Mchunu.

He believes that the intercessions will be followed by a period of peace and unity ahead of the upcoming general elections to be held on 07 May, this year.
