Volkswagen Racing On and Off The Road

Volkswagen Racing On and Off The Road

Date: 2015-07-10
RALLY fans can look forward to an exciting Volkswagen Rally on Friday and Saturday, July 17 and 18, in Port Elizabeth and surrounds. The 2015 event features 12 stages of competition, with the layout of the event designed to keep the action as close to the fans as possible.

A wheel-changing competition is being organised for rally fans attenting the scrutineering event - the winners of which will be treated to a VIP VW Rally experience at the Volkswagen Rally.

"The VW Rally is going to be more challenging and also much more spectator friendly," says Joe Fourie, route organiser of the event. "There is less driving around for the rally fans and there is also spectating on every single stage of the event. A great deal of work has gone into making this rally the most accessible event yet."

On the tar, the Engen Volkswagen Cup racers do battle at East London's circuit on Saturday, June 11, when they contest round four of the national championship for Volkswagen Polo Vivo race cars. This event is the mid-point of the 2015 season and their third race meeting in a row at a coastal circuit.

Heading in to the mid-season event, it is Sheldon van der Linde (1 - Champion) who leads the championship. Van der Linde is 15 points in the lead after the first three rounds having won the first three races of the season.

Van der Linde remains the most successful of the competitors as he has missed a podium result only twice this season.

The Engen Volkswagen Cup competitors will wow the East London race fans with their tough racing style and dramatic action. The Engen Volkswagen Cup championship has proved a long-time favourite with race fans thanks to the door-to-door racing and there is the promise of plenty of that happening when the series competes in East London on Saturday.
