A rich, aromatic, full-bodied cup of brew at Beanstruk in Litchi Orchid

A rich, aromatic, full-bodied cup of brew at Beanstruk in Litchi Orchid

Date: 2017-09-22

It was many moons ago that I first met the founders of Beanstruk coffee, Laura and Ric Hansen. They had just returned from a magical sailing trip around central America and their stories about the exotic far away islands were as inspiring as the smell of their freshly brewed coffee.

In fact, I doubt if I will ever forget the taste of the Blue Mountain cappuccino that Laura served me that day. I was a coffee addict from that day on, I soon invested in a proper Italian coffee maker and my taste for artisan brew grew to new heights.

But that was 11 years ago; today Beanstruk Coffee Roastery is now owned by a dynamic, self proclaimed coffee snob Michelle and her coffee pot husband Craig Hendrikz. Originally from Cape Town, they travelled all over the globe to experience the magical flavours of the delightful caffeine beverage. They both knew that coffee was their future and so when they moved to the North Coast some nine years ago, they came across Laura's Beanstruk Coffee Roasters and convinced her to sell her business to them.

Since 2008, they have grown the thriving Roastery and introduced new blends and personalised flavours to their customers. They also spread their distribution and now deliver their coffee blends all over the country.

Michelle and Craig have a wonderful selection of international coffee beans and their selection is truly inspirational, When asked what makes their blend so popular, Michelle told me, "We use 100% Arabica Coffee and I only use higher range beans, which are obviously more expensive than the ordinary brands but are much more flavoursome."

Michelle also told me that they roasts their beans every second day and their beans are usually sold within three days of the roast date, which means that they are fresh, aromatic and flavoursome every time.

"Lets not beat around the bush, my husband Craig and I are romantically involved with coffee. We adore the smells, the tastes, the sights, the sounds, the processes and the craft." Michelle told The Bugle. "With my husband a true bottomless coffee pot and me a bit of a coffee snob."

Form 1 November Beanstruk will be moving to new bigger premises and will offer a wider range of coffees and coffee accessories, Michelle has wonderful plans on the cards including coffee tasting and cupping events which they want to introduce to the local community.

So even if you are not a coffee addict like me, come and allow Precious and Jubs to serve you the best cupper on the North Coast. Litchi Orchid offers a peaceful country setting and their rich, aromatic full-bodied coffee will blow your mind. Open 7 days a week. Come and discover a universe of delectable flavour.
