Neil's Burning talent

Neil's Burning talent

Author: Kasia Yoko
Date: 2013-09-20
Neil Claydon is a rare example of raw talent. He has recently moved to Umdloti to be close to the Ocean and to pursue his deep passion - painting. Besides a formidable talent as an artist, Neil is also gifted in music. Even though he has never been musically trained, that is if you don't count the Durban Boys Choir stint he had before his voice broke, Neil displays brilliance in both disciplines.

At school Neil was an average art student. Who would have known that his natural talent would help him pay for his travels, half way around the globe? Neil Claydon is only thirty-one years old but already he has exhibited and sold his art in Europe and the USA. He has raw talent oozing out of every pore of his being.

"I come from a religious background." Neil tells The Bugle, "A lot of my influences have been drawn form traveling missionaries. I have spent a lot of time in impoverished areas where my music was an only sign of happiness." In his youth Neil used his music to spread love around, today he hopes that his art will make a difference in someone's life.

When you look at his paintings, Neil's extraordinary gift at combining colour, light and proportions is glaringly obvious. His art is a mixture of expressionism and impressionism and there is a real sense of balance in each canvas. While life for a newly married artist is not easy Neil believes that his talent will win the hearts of South Africans just as it did in other parts of the world.

Neil now lives in Umdloti, when he is not writing music or painting his masterpieces, you can find him in the surf. That is where most of his inspirations are born. If you would like to find out more about Neil's talent visit his website https://www.claydonstyle.co.za.
