Young Guns - Unearthing Music Talent - This Weekend At Ballito
This initiative invites youth bands, no matter what genre of music played, to grab their kit, get on stage and entertain, and in return they will be supported with a venue, music backline and an audience of like-minded music-lovers.
Young Guns event takes place from 2pm - 5pm, and features Toxic Candy, Holly with local bands Trifecta, Jonathan Johansen and Hamish McCreedy. Toxic Candy, the winners of the recent Upbeat Festival's "Battle of the Bands" are an exciting young band that hail from the Highway area. The concert is headlined by Holly, who whilst still at school has managed to create a powerful reputation for herself with her catchy radio friendly brand of pop with African influences, Hamish McCreedy plays a wide variety of genre's on the electric and acoustic guitar ranging from folk to heavy metal. Trifecta will be hot off the stage from this year's Splashy Fen. They comprise two of celebrated musician Barry Thomson's guitar students, Julian Van Rensburg and Rorke Kemp, and drummer James Mellon. They are a tight 3 piece band with strong vocals that won the prize for the best Musical item at Durban High School recently. Tickets are R30 and can be purchased at the door on the day.
