As we come to the end of 2019 and the dawn of a new decade, a few things need to be addressed, such as that new years resolutions list. What am I going to commit to in 2020 What do I want out of this sassy numerological compilation And how much am I really willing to give up to achieve those goals

In recent weeks, I spoke about the need to reboot our brains and restart the 'mother-board'. Nothing can be achieved in chaos and disorder, and that I can tell you from personal experiences.

It's not just our brains that we need to reboot; it's also our relationships with our loved ones, our friends, our neighbours, our colleagues, our bosses and our preachers. In 2020, we resume with a clean slate. No carrying grudges, no hard feelings and most of all no regrets, because life is too short for the burden of feelings of regret.

2019 has been a hard year, emotionally draining, socially challenging, psychologically exhausting and physically gruelling. It was a very important year that has brought many meaningful realisations. In 2020 one of my goals will be to choose very carefully whom I spend my time with and what I spend my time on. Time is fleeting, and what did I say about regrets

Recently I asked my friend Jason what was his New Year's Resolution for 2020 was. To which he replied, "Many years ago I used to make a New Year's resolution every year, only to find that after a few weeks or months all the good intentions went out the window. Then I came across an ancient saying. "The path to hell is paved with good intentions". So, when New Year's Eve came around again I decided to make one final resolution and that was: Never, never, ever to make a New Year's Resolution again. And guess what I have stuck to this resolution ever since, I didn't stumble once."

Yes, you can be like my friend Jason and not fall into the trap of commercial thinking. No New Year's resolutions mean no stresses and strains associated with achieving them or not. Instead, the energy wasted dealing with the stresses and strains is redirected into doing things you want to do, things that interest you and you enjoy, that are fulfilling and so on.

Or you can just, take time off to clear your head, sit down somewhere quiet and write down things that you think will make you happy. Once you have a clear picture in your head what you envisage happiness to look like on the other side of 2020, you can imagine the means it will take to achieve those goals.

Whatever you choose to do make sure that you put your happiness first because when you're happy, everyone is happy.
