Bells Beach - And Leaders Keep Falling on the World Surf league Championship Tour
Top seeds continued to fall at the Rip CurlPro Bells Beach,Stop No. 2 on theWorld Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT),in the men's Rounds 3 and 4, and the women's Quarterfinals in four-to-six foot surf.
Tuesday witnessed all but three WSL Championships dispatched with John John Florence, Joel Parkinson, Adriano de Souza, and Carissa Moore out of the draw. Now, only Mick Fanning, Stephanie Gilmore, and Gabriel Medina represent the class of elite World Champions heading into the Final Series of the iconic Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach event.
Two-time, reigning WSL Champion Florence is out of the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach after losing to compatriot Ezekiel Lau in the opening heat of the day. In Round 3 Heat 7, Lau put the pressure on Florence by jostling for position. Lau's physical assertion seemed to throw Florence off his game as he struggled to find a wave of substance. Lau, on the other hand, looked confident and powerfulin that heat as well as in Round 4, where he defeated Frederico Morais and Conner Coffin.
Meanwhile Kai Woolf and David van Zyl clinched Titles at the Volkswagen Nelson Mandela Bay Surf Pro.
Kai Woolf of Jeffreys Bay was the standout performer in the Volkswagen Nelson Mandela Bay Surf Pro, in Port Elizabeth over the Easter weekend, clinching both the women's and junior women's titles while David van Zyl, from Glenashley, won the men's event and Dillon Hendricks, also from Jeffreys Bay, captured the junior men's crown.
