The foodie festival of the year is coming to town! Durban has a wealth of culinary hotspots, Marcelle Roberts, chef and owner of Caf‚ 1999 is one of the chefs that that has been chosen to do cooking demonstrations at this years. Taste of Durban.

Chef-Patron Marcelle Robert's award winning contemporary Mediterranean cuisine is designed around sharing. Cafe 1999 offers a dining experience to excite the senses: a vibrant ambience, gracious service and a delectable menu in the heart of Durban?s trendy Berea.

Marcelle Roberts trained at Christina Martin in 1998, then headed straight overseas to the Channel Islands and London after her training.

When she returned to SA she worked at La Tala restaurant at Tala Game reserve and for 2 years at Merlot Restaurant in Pietermaritzburg.

At the age of 21 she moved to Caf‚ 1999 and together with her husband Sean bought the business in 2005.

Caf‚ 1999 has always been a trendy and vibey establishment specialising in modern Mediterranean cuisine designed around sharing and socialising.

In 2008 they opened a gourmet Pizzeria, Pizzetta and their latest venture is Unity Craft Beer Bar and Brasserie.

"Cooking with fish and seafood must be one of my favourite things, especially a beautiful piece of tuna. I am also very passionate about local ingredients and at Unity we focus on just that, simple food but ingredients that come straight from the farm to the table. I don't believe in overcomplicating things and would rather let the ingredients do the talking". Said Marcelle.

Cafe 1999 offers a dining experience to excite the senses: a vibrant ambiance, gracious service and a delectable menu in the heart of Durban's trendy Berea. Her menu is informed by the seasons using only the finest local and imported ingredients, hand-picked by Marcelle and her team, culminating in fresh and innovative seasonal dishes. Cafe 1999 has been in operation for 12 years and has remained a firm favourite for locals and visitors alike.

Caf‚ 1999 has consistendly been top 10 in the Anne Steven's Mercury restaurant guide for the past 8 years
