Art For Education Fundraising Dinner And Auction

Art For Education Fundraising Dinner And Auction

Date: 2012-11-07
Education is one of the most important aspects of everyone's life. Education not only provides children with a foundation for their future but it ensures maximum success for their future.

Cornerstone Remedial School, together with renowned artist Frans Adams (of Frans Alexander Interiors), recognises the need for a sound education and has started the Art for Education initiative.

Art for Education aims to provide remedial education to a deserving child who experiences either learning difficulties or disorders.

On Thursday November 22, five of Adams original paintings will be auctioned at a special dinner at Craft Trattoria in Glenashley with all proceeds being donated to a one-year scholarship at the school.

Any additional money raised will be used for therapies such as occupational therapy, neurofeedback therapy, speech therapy and educational psychology. The aim is to raise at least R50 000 with the aim of giving a child two of the best Christmas gifts - hope and an education.

Jared Harmsworth, who has battled through school, has been chosen as the first Art for Education bursary recipient.

"Jared is currently in a Junior Elson class, but his improvement has been stagnant," said Cornerstone remedial educator Shelly Neilson.

"Jared needs an environment that focuses on academic achievement, social integration and life skills within a nurturing environment."

Psychological counsellor and founder of Solace and Cornerstone Calvin Pienaar said that Jared has undergone just about every assessment and test needed, from brain scans to psychological assessments.

"The best hope for him would be a school like Cornerstone Remedial School."

Unfortunately, Jared is unable to attend Cornerstone Remedial School and Solace Assessment and Therapy Centre due to his parents' current financial situation, during these tough economic times.

"When we heard Jared's situation it touched our hearts and we decided to give back to our community through this initiative," said Pienaar.

Tickets for the Arts for Education benefit evening at Craft Trattoria are R250 which includes a four-course meal and wine pairing. The evening starts at 7pm and all guests are invited to raise their paddles and bid generously for the paintings.

To book, contact Guy Wood from Craft Trattoria on 031 562 1951 or 083 799 6019.
