Tribute to Madiba: Passing of Nelson Mandela Statement 06-12-13

Date: 2013-12-13
NAFCOC mourns the passing of former President Dr. Nelson Mandela

The President of NAFCOC, Reverend Joe Hlongwane, on behalf of the NAFCOC leadership and members, today expressed a deep sense of sadness on hearing the news of the passing away of former President Nelson Mandela.

"As NAFCOC, we are saddened by the loss of the father of our nation and a global icon in whom the virtues of humility, selflessness were personified. He was the embodiment of the struggle for freedom, equality and justice for all people, both black and white.

"As black business, we have lost a friend, and we owe many of our successes over the years to his exemplary leadership in ensuring that black people take their rightful place in the commanding heights of the South African economy," said Rev Hlongwane.
Hlongwane said "Madiba was the man of the century "and "our generation has been fortunate to have had the blessing of his leadership. He is a man who taught the world how to forgive and we should emulate him".

He described him as a man of "exceptional qualities, a father, statesman, and international icon who loved South Africa deeply."

He added that as business, "we are appreciative that his life and leadership were both educating and enriching".

"During my first term as NAFCOC president between1994 - 1998, I had the privilege of working and travelling with him to promote South Africa to the international investment community," he added.

Sending his heartfelt condolences to the entire Mandela family, Hlongwane added that "the world has not seen a man so selfless as Madiba, and we thank his family, the BaThembu clan for sharing him with us and the entire world.  It is important that we as business people learn to live as selflessly as he did".

May his soul rest in peace!
