Suncoast's Conferencing Queen

Suncoast's Conferencing Queen

Author: Kasia Yoko

It is not often that you meet a person with such passion. It is a rare quality in a normally serious corporate environment, however Valerie Pillay, Suncoast's Conference Centre Manager, is a standout individual. For the past thirteen years she has been organising and managing events and changing people's lives. Valerie is young, smart and assertive but most of all she oozes warmth and integrity which makes her a gem in her industry.

"We are a 'stand alone' conference venue here at Suncoast, so we're like a wild card." Valerie told The Bugle, "When people think of a conference venue they associate it with a serious corporate environment but when you hold an event with us, it is conferencing with a difference. So you get a bit of sunlight when you are having your teas and coffees, we take you to a different restaurant for lunch with a sea view and most of our customers go, 'Wow, we did not expect this!'"

Valerie chooses to think outside the box and doing conferencing differently is what she is renown for. Her attention to detail, her ability to make things happen and her reliable team that pulls out all the stops at the drop of a hat, is what sets her apart from her competition.

"When I started with Tsogo Sun thirteen years ago we stayed away from special occasion events and we wanted to be a corporate destination, and then we realised the huge untapped market that exists in special eventing; birthday parties, engagements, pre-wedding parties, family reunions, school reunions."

Valerie prides herself in her ability to throw any kind of party, even a wedding ceremony. She understands the importance of each occasion and tries to exceed people's expectations.

"When we are saying conferencing with a difference, we are putting it out there. There are people that want something out of the norm and we are here to provide it for them."

Valerie's enthusiasm is contagious, everyone around her gets infected by her positive vibe even her support team carry an assertive grin on their faces. There are no panic stations here. This team knows what they are doing and they look like they are all having fun.

"We have the right setting for special events with the beachfront as our backdrop and a host of other entertainment options right here." Adds Valerie.

The Suncoast Conference Centre has the capacity to seat 250 people for a banquet dinner. 400 guests can be accommodated for a cocktail party. For presentation style functions, the capacity is raised to 450 guests who can be seated cinema style.

"As long as it is not breaching our health and safety regulations we can do anything you dream your function to be. Our flexible chef will also theme your food to suit your dÈcor and occasion."

With competitively priced conference package options, Suncoast Conference Centre is a must when considering venues for your next event. There is so much you can do with this innovative venue. If you can dream it Valerie can create it. Looking for something unique for your year-end gathering, Suncoast is the place to be.
