Art Demonstration By Contemporary Artist Dane Stops

Art Demonstration By Contemporary Artist Dane Stops

Date: 2017-02-10
On Faburary 11th from 9am-12pm experience Dane in action, as he wows us with his abundance of natural artistic talent, capturing the elements of realism and stylization in his artwork. He feels that drawing is one of the most important tools for an artist, as it creates a foundation for the visual language employed through the chosen medium.

He is based in Durban and is a lecturer in the graphic design department at Durban University of Technology and is a master graffiti artist and master of figure drawing. He has recently submitted for a Master's Degree which revolves around representations of the nude figure, for which he is awaiting results.

For his work, he enjoys accurate representation with an element of 'chaos'. In this way there is a balance between the controlled and uncontrolled mark. Dane works with various media, from traditional drawing tools such as pencils and pens, to paint such as acrylic and spray paint. Working with a range of media has allowed various, extreme scales to be explored from 4m high figures to miniature 3cm drawings.

Stops has taken part in a number of group exhibitions and done live art at various events. He has been an active contributor to the Durban Mural and Graffiti scene for over a decade. The work he makes has various influences, from painting graffiti to figurative subject matter such as people and birds.

The venue is in the church hall, 2 Newport Avenue, Virginia (entrance just after Danville High School). R 40 entrance fee, includes refreshments and an inspirational fun morning with fellow art enthusiasts.
