Podium Finishes In Every Race In National For Tonykart

Podium Finishes In Every Race In National For Tonykart

Date: 2014-05-09
An excellent performance on the competitive and tricky Killarney Kart Circuit in Cape Town saw overall podium finishes in every single one of the nine classes. Two Kwa-Zulu Natal lads from Ballito, Benjamin Habig who competed in the DD2 class with a strong line-up of 28 competitors, was 3rd overall, and Christiano Morgado scooped the DD2 Masters overall win, ahead of Richard van Heerde who finished a strong 2nd.

All three drivers are from the TonyKart stable, with Morgado now first in the Masters Category in the overall standings after round 2 and Habig in 3rd place in the2014 SA Championship standings. Habig also posted the quickest lap time in heat 1 by blitzing around the circuit in 41.250 secs in lap 8 of the 15 lap race.

The 14 year-old Keagan Masters in the Performance Masters Senior Rok Tonykart, finished third in the Super Rok Category, after a battle with experienced veteran drivers Simon Moss (24) and Chassen Bright (25).

Overall honours went to Jason Smith in his Tonykart in the Junior Rok category with team mate Dillon Fowler finishing 3rd overall for the day after a calculated performance in the three heats. The Max Challenge trio of Eugene Denyssen, Wesley Vosloo and Johnathan Aberdein - all from the TonyKart stable, occupied 2nd, 4th and 5th overall.

Denyssen won the first heat, but an on track incident saw him finishing a bit lower in heat 2, and after a strong fight for podium in the third heat, secured the 2nd spot. Even the youngest of the drivers competing in the Maxterino and Mini Rok classes, saw the TonyKarts give the rest of the field a run for the money with Dario Busi drawing first blood in heat 1 of the Maxterino three heat race, taking a first and fourth place, but was disqualified in Heat 2. However he still managed to scoop 4th overall. Ballito's Dominic Lincoln had two good heats, but was bumped and barged in heat 2, giving him a 7th overall.

This was the second round of the combined ROK and ROTAX 2014 SA Championship, with 150 karts from around the country descending on the Cape Town circuit. The third round will be held in KZN at the Idube Racetrack on 26, 27 and 28 June. This is an excellent opportunity to go and see this competitive sport and realise there is a difference between 'Go-karts' and Karting.
