I am taking precautions, dosing my body with all sorts of natural cures. What do they say about prevention being better than cure; well I am going all out with the self-help remedies, Milk Thistle, Ginseng, Multi Vitamins and lots of raw fruit and veggies. I want to have the fun but I really do not want to pay for it the next day.
Do you love a party but hate the morning after? Here are some useful hangover cures that might come in handy over the next couple of weeks.
1. Though medical experts may advise against the "hair of the dog" hangover remedy, nothing tastes as good as a spicy, tomato-rich Bloody Mary. Some people consider it the most important and the best cure for heavy hangover blues.
2. A simple cheese, tomato, bacon and egg sandwich, packs multiple food groups and nutrients into compact, flavourful layers. Serve it on the English muffin which will help raise your dropping blood sugar level, the eggs and bacon offer amino acids to help your liver break down toxins, and tomatoes provide plenty of vitamin C. Gooey cheese, parsley and chives, meanwhile, just make for tasty toppers.
3. The unlikely combination of bacon and doughnuts is the perfect breakfast for those who can't decide between savory and sweet - a much discussed brunch conundrum - and for those who desperately need both a blood sugar spike and a protein fix.
4. Though some might say coffee will only further dehydrate your body, some mornings you just need a boost of energy. On such a day, double-strength coffee will get you on your way, while milk and cream will give your stomach a much-needed coating.
5. Can't even stomach the thought of swallowing whole food? If it's one of those mornings, force a sweet, fruit-filled smoothie down. The surge of vitamins will give you just the lift you need, while natural sugars help raise your rapidly dropping blood sugar levels.
6. Believe it or not, chocolate can help you recover from your stupor thanks to plenty of potassium.
7. Light, fluffy pancakes are as delicious eaten plain as they are when topped with everything from honey and butter to fresh fruit, fruit preserves and whipped cream.
8. A fiery Thai noodle dish might not seem like a conventional breakfast food. Add fresh chili and garlic, and allow the sweat to sort out the toxins.
9. Toasted cheese and Mediterranean vegetables sandwich. The soft, but crispy-sided slices of bread sandwich, gooey, melted cheese and crunchy vegetables, offer a perfect trio of carbs, protein and vitamins.
10. Mac and cheese with bacon. Now this is a true winner, the carbs cushion your aching stomach craves, while cheese and bacon provide just enough protein to help your body recover
The best remedy again is prevention, and keeping your alcohol consumption down, drinking lots of water in between and knowing when to stop is still the best way of avoiding those deadly hangovers. Happy holidays. And please whatever you do, don't drink and drive!
