Shining Stars Concert not to be missed

Shining Stars Concert not to be missed

Date: 2016-06-10
June is always seen as the month to celebrate our youth in South Africa. On June 18th, Durban Girls' College will be hosting what promises to be an amazing concert doing just that - showcasing their talented musical youth.

The concert entitled "Shining Stars", will feature the world renowned Drakensberg Boys' choir, the Durban Girls' College High School choir and orchestra, and the KZN Youth Orchestra will also perform some popular orchestral works. In the second half they will team up and accompany soloists from DGC and the Drakensberg Boys' choir. The evening will end with two massed choir and orchestral items.

The KZN Youth Orchestra recently performed with the Drakensberg Boys' Choir at their "Music in the Mountains Festival" at the end of April and their concert was a resounding success, being the first one to be sold out at the festival and ended with a standing ovation.

The first half of the concert on June 18th, will feature marimbas from DGC conducted by Calvin Human and the choirs - Durban Girls' College choir conducted by Ronel Perks and there will be some fascinating choral pieces rendered by the Drakensberg Boys' choir under the directorship of Bernard Kruger and Charlotte Botha. The second half will feature the KZNYO under the batons of Lyk Temmingh and Cathy Peacock, performing such favourites as Brahms' "Hungarian Dance no. 5" , Tchaikovsky's "March Slave" and the ever popular "Radetsky March."

Some of the lighter music will feature soloists from DGC and the Drakensberg Boys' Choir and there will be popularsongs such as "Sway", "New York New York" and "Over the Rainbow".

The "Shining Stars" concert will be at Durban Girls' College Hall in Musgrave Road at 6.30pm on Saturday 18th June.

Ticket prices are R100 and R80 for scholars and pensioners. Booking is essential and can be obtained via email tborman@dgc.co.za
