DHS Grade 8's ring the bell for brotherhood

DHS Grade 8's ring the bell for brotherhood

Date: 2014-01-24
The Durban High School Grade 8 bell-ringing ceremony for 2014 was held on the first day of school on Wednesday, January 15th and saw many excited grade 8's being inducted into DHS brotherhood for the next five years.

The DHS theme for this year is "Get involved" and words of wisdom by both the Head of Grade and the Head Master were given to the boys. Every boy was encouraged to get involved in some activity at the school.: Make the most of what is offered to you at DHS," said the headmaster, Leon Erasmus. He added that every boy should make their journey through High School a positive one; one that they can one day look back on and admire.

Eight bell ringers were chosen to represent each class of grade 8's who were expected to ring the bell as a sign that the class was now ready to become part of the DHS brotherhood and heritage of the school. After every bell was rung, each boy in the class, with their blazer in hand, participated in the change of guard by the Head Prefect, MJ Du Plessis, who helped each boy put on his DHS blazer - thus officially welcoming him to the school.

Making the day special was the tremendous amount of support shown by the parents - many of whom shed a tear of happiness to witness the start of their young boys becoming young men.

When these boys are in grade 10, in the year 2016. DHS will turn 150 years old and every boy is excited to be a part of this milestone.
