Durban and Coastal Mental Health was opened to the community in 1940 by a group of concerned medical practitioners and is the largest mental health organization in South Africa. Durban and Coastal Mental Health are committed to helping service users with mental disabilities to break the seemingly unbreakable cycle of poverty, poor education, unemployment and disability discrimination, so that they can find their rightful place in society and the workplace. The aim of Durban and Coastal Mental Health is to build their capacity and self-esteem, so that they can achieve a higher level of independence and improved quality of life.
"The Afrisun KZN Community Development Trust was established in 1998 to fund exceptional community up-liftment projects, such as this, particularly North of Durban." said Afrisun Trustee Judge Vuka Tshabalala. "The Development Trust has a 9.3% stake in Afrisun KZN, a shareholder of Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom, and was created to distribute profits from dividends to the communities in need. The Trust, together with Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom CSI, has committed over R 20 million to Social Development Projects this year, with R40 million being given to community projects since its formation".
