The Woman behind the lens: Sam Basson
Sam is a Mother of two: Aimee & Luke and is manied to Andries Basson. Living on the North Coast as a professional Photographer, Sam has been seen actively getting involved in the local community assisting wherever she can.
Sam studied painting under Pieter Millard and fell in love with photography as a teenage girl. This lead to Sam starting her business, Precision Photography -Ballito in 2012. Since then she has been whirlwind in the industry of a professional photographer. "Precision Photography does not just focus on making people look good but also your products. A Picture is worth a thousand words, and for online shopping it's worth even more!" Sam told Tue Bugle with much enthusiasm.
Being a Ballito based business, Sam's focus has always been on a small to medium sized business, where the visual appeal sells, especially in e-commerce.
"If there is no other technical issue, and the traffic hitting your website is not converted into sales, then you need to take a critical look at your product images." Sam added.
Just about every single study done found that between 80% to 90% of online shoppers consider product imagery itself to be the most important element of their product reviews, descriptions, shipping methods, discounts and price.
It's easy to understand why; in a physical environment all our senses are constantly being stimulated: sight, smell, taste and touch. fu the digital realm your sight is much more reliant, hence why visual aesthetics play such a prominent role and sight is the one sense we rely on.
Big brands and corporations know this. They spend thousands on professional photography to ensure that their Images appeal to their target market whilst upholding their brand image. If you ever tried to list a product on a big ecommers selling platform like Takealot or others you will know how strict they are about the product photos. They will outright reject your listing if your pictures don't meet their specific requirements.
The South Africa's e-commerce market has almost doubled over the last two years and is currently worth just under R200 billion. By 2025 First National Bank expect the market to reach R400 billion, this in turn will lead to more competitors as business seeks a share of the market. If you want to remain competitive and continue to convert online traffic to sales, then teaming up with a product photographer who can appeal and inspire your shoppers is a must.
