Ashton Celebrates 'One Day Without Shoes'

Ashton Celebrates 'One Day Without Shoes'

Date: 2015-04-24
'One Day Without Shoes': Ashton once again took up the challenge on Friday 17 April to go barefoot for a day and the students and parents donated generously to the campaign. Although the International One Day Without Shoes will only be held in May, this was Ashton's Term 2 social responsibility project and with the many public holidays ahead, the date was brought forward. In sympathy with the thousands of children and adults across the globe who do not have the luxury of a pair of shoes, the students were allowed to wear civvies and walk barefoot all day. The target was to collect more than the 2014 total, and the students rose to the occasion and collected 1941 pairs of shoes, 500 pairs more than 2014.

"The generosity of our students and parents was overwhelming and the number of new shoes that were donated is extremely appreciated. The shoes will be sent to R A Padayachee School, our Junior College social responsibility partner, as well as to LIV Village," said Mrs Holmes, Head of the Junior College. "It is our wish for every child at R A Padayachee to be blessed with a pair of shoes, and this year we are happy to include LIV. Shoes will also be sent to the North Coast Courier Orphan Fund's charities, NOAH, to Greytown Children's Home, NOAH, Kwa Mama and St Vincent's - the shoes will find their way to some needy feet just in time for winter.
