The stunning Osa Restaurant opens once again at Fairmont Zimbali Resort
There was a lot of excitement and plenty compliments being thrown around the table of journalists and bloggers last Tuesday, as the talented chefs of Osa Restaurant shared their culinary genius with us.
There was a lot of lip smacking and 'wow' and 'yum'. Everything looked and smelled delicious and oh the tastethe taste sensation of the tasting menu was something to behold.
Osa Restaurant, which use to be the fine dining venue for the Fairmont Zimbali Resort has recently changed its direction into a more traditional North Indian cuisine and has received enomours compliments not just from the holiday makers but also from the residents of Zimbali.
"Osa is a real great venue for all kinds of events and functions." Says Exectutive Chef Dean Uren, "But we love it for that intimate family experience." The exciting new menu ensures that there is something for everyone as western items can be found on the menu for those that do not like the spice. The chef also ensure that the kitchen is Hallal friendly.
The team which prepares the delicacies is made up of Senior Sous Chef, Melanie Moodley who has worked at Zimbali for 15 years - and wouldn't want to do anything different anywhere else! This Tongaat mom is passionate about all things culinary. Her love for food began during her childhood when she remembers watching her mother in the kitchen. To this day, she says, her mother remains her "food hero" simply because if it wasn't for her, she would not have the career that she enjoys so much today.
Joining the SA culinary team is Executive Pastry Chef Nesar Ahmad Noorullah who has brought a touch of exotic India to South Africa where he has worked for just over a year. Although currently living in Tongaat, he comes from Azamgarh (Uttar Paradesh), a small town in India. He began his schooling in Dubai and completed it at the Jyoti Niketan School in Azamgarh (U.P.), India. He then went on to graduate in hospitality management from the Institute of Advanced Management, Kolkata, India.
Seelan Naidoo is a valuable extention to the team. Seelan hails from Tongaat and he developed the love for the food industry whilst working as a waiter during his school days. By the time he found himself working as an a la carte waiter at the Maidstone Golf Club, he realized that where he most wanted to be was in the kitchen.
