Simpkins confirmed as new CSA General Manager

Simpkins confirmed as new CSA General Manager

Date: 2014-01-24
At the Canoeing South Africa board meeting on Monday Colin Simpkins was confirmed as the new General Manager of the federation, ratifying a position that he had held in an acting capacity since December.

Simpkins took over the position following the resignation of previous GM Travis Wilkinson which meant that Simpkins withdrew himself from the CSA Board after his temporary appointment to the position.

"We are pleased to announce that Colin has been selected as our new GM," Canoeing South Africa's president Christo Horn said. "We received a number of applications for the position and were very impressed by the applicants but we feel we have made the right choice."

"Colin has had a long association with canoeing and it felt like a correct fit that he should take on the position and we wish him every success in his new role at CSA," Horn explained.

Simpkins is required to maintain and strengthen relationships with a number of national bodies including SASCOC as well as Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA). It is his responsibility to ensure that CSA as well as unions and clubs utilise their funding from LOTTO to better the sport of canoeing in South Africa.

Liaising with a number of different portfolios which fall under the CSA banner is an important element to the position and remaining in constant contact with unions, clubs, officials and coaches is a critical part of his job.
