The budget busting entry-level passenger car from Renault, that has been taking the lion's share of the supermini segment of the car market, is the new Kwid. The main reason for this is that they have packed the Kwid with so much kit it really presents fantastic value for money.
The only thing missing was an automatic derivative, and this has now been catered for with the new Renault Kwid AMT. This is available now from Renault Ballito and I had the chance to take the new Kwid AMT for a test drive.
For ease of use the new Kwid offers a dial for a gear selector that has three setting, reverse, neutral and drive. It's as easy as that, and then we were off and the advanced control unit was selecting the appropriate gear with ease.
Christo Saidt, the Sales Manager form Renault Ballito explained to me that it is not an automatic in the traditional sense, rather and automated five speed gearbox, which through some actuators and software program, shifts the gears for the driver automatically.
It took very little for me to get used to the Kwid Auto and we were sailing up the N2 in no time. The gear changes are very gentle and well co-ordinated and the Kwid environment with its seven-inch colour touch screen, complete with map and navigation, airbags and so much more, had me well impressed.
For a chance to test drive the Kwid AMT auto, contact Renault Ballito on 032 - 946 5820 or visit their showroom at 8 Moffat Drive, Ballito.
