Cancer Awareness Month

Cancer Awareness Month

Date: 2015-10-30
After constantly seeing all the pink ribbons up in Hillcrest throughout the month of October, Debbie Cameron, Michelle Seppings and Lynne Fairclough from Debbie Cameron Physiotherapy decided to do something proactive for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All three ladies booked mammograms at Hillcrest Private Hospital to support the campaign which promotes 'early detection' and 'prevention is better than cure'.

According to Debbie Cameron of Debbie Cameron Physiotherapy, an important message that she would like the upper highway community to hear is the manta 'cancer can be beaten'.

"As much as we, physiotherapists, can do to prevent this disease we must. Cancer has such a huge impact on our lives and those of our loved ones, and it is our duty to help by dispensing information that prevents this disease and others like it. Physiotherapists are trained to treat, alleviate and assist with recovery from the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation,'' continues Debbie.

''This year I have seen an increasing number of people come for physiotherapy during and after cancer treatment where their joints and muscle have been impacted, particularly as result of a complication from radiation,'' concludes Debbie.
