The Hinds Brothers take to the stage

The Hinds Brothers take to the stage

Date: 2013-08-30
Durban is gearing up for a musical extravaganza. Durban based folk rock band, The Hinds Brothers, will take to the stage on Saturday 31st of August 2013 at the Howard College Theatre in Glenwood for an exclusive show to mark the official release of their debut album, Ocean of Milk.

The event will feature the core lineup, Aden and Wren Hinds, performing alongside a sterling lineup of acclaimed musicians including Sez Adamson on pedal steel & lap steel guitars, Ant Cawthorn-Blazeby on fiddle, Bruce Baker on drums, Logan Byrne on upright bass and Richard Haslop on dobro and mandolin. Tickets are R100 and are available through quicket.com or Corner Cafe in Glenwood.

The Hinds Brothers sound cannot be pigeonholed to one specific genre however their music does contain textured fragments of folk, rock and country. Born and raised in a creative environment on the South Coast, the two brothers first discovered music at quite an early age.

Aden later decided to relocate to Johannesburg to further pursue his musical interests. Here he formed the band Dreamchain which went on to perform countrywide with acts such as Watershed, Johnny Clegg and Mango Groove along the way. During this time Wren studied music at the National School of the Arts, honing his song-writing and guitar playing skills.

The brothers also spent time travelling outside of South Africa - Aden in India and Wren between Jordan, Israel and Egypt. The brothers reconnected musically upon return from their travels and The Hinds Brothers was conceived.

To date The Hinds Brothers have performed across South Africa and appeared at venues and festivals such as Splashy Fen, The George Theatre, Tanz Cafe, the Barleycorn Folk Club and the 2010 Soccer World Cup Festival Stages.

The Durban based duo's debut album, Ocean of Milk, was recorded over an extended period of two years. Produced by the brothers themselves, the album was recorded in no less than 7 studios in Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Pretoria, and features 19 of South Africa's top musicians. It was mixed by SAMA award winning producer Dan Roberts and mastered in New York by Alan Douches (Sufjan Stevens, Roky Erikson).
