Samsung And Apple

Samsung And Apple

Author: Damian Yoko
Date: 2012-11-01
Recently, Apple surprisingly announced the eminent release of the fourth generation iPad, just seven months after its predecessor's release during March this year. Classic Apple move, however the current third generation iPad owners are disgruntled by this news, with 45% of current users saying that this development is not to their liking.

Nonetheless, Apple and Samsung currently control 106% of the handset industry, how is this possible you ask? Well, it is possible when other competitors such as Research In Motion, Nokia, Sony and Motorola all posted operating losses.

This is the second quarter that these two companies have dominated more than 100% of profits, with Samsung recently announcing quarterly profits of $7.4 billion and Apple posting profits of $41.66 billion dollars during the 2012 fiscal year.

Analysts predict that Apple generated 59% of the industry's operating profits during the 2012 third quarter. Samsung, meanwhile, was responsible for 47% of profits. These companies have a solid control over the industry, with the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S3 being the two most sought after cellular devices in recent history. Debates and discussions over which device is of superior quality have been constantly ringing in the ears of consumers, however a conclusion has not been reached.

If you ask me, just choose the phone you think looks better, because the performance specs of these two devices are almost identical. Aesthetically, however, one will struggle to find a more pleasing phone than the iPhone 5, its beautifully crafted metal exterior is hard to beat. Whether you are willing to pay the extra R3900 difference is a completely different question. Hopefully the future will bring a decrease in the costs of these devices.
