KZN Sharks Board International Coastal Beach- Clean-up Project Success Story
The KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board is the only organisation of its kind in the world. KwaZulu-Natal Maritime Centre of Excellence is the leader in bather protection against shark attacks and maintains safety shark gear from Richard Bay to Port Edward.
They also have activities such as shark dissection shows, which are an effort to bring science to learners and visitors in an informal setting. KZN Sharks Board has made shark dissection a part of the whole learning experience and they also have Early Morning Boat Trips, where they take visitors to experience the KZN Sharks Board operations staff servicing the shark nets and safety gear.
KZN Sharks Board in partnership with Defy, Wessa and CONSOL Glass took the time to effect a Beach Clean Up Initiative at Dakota Beach. This is one of the initiatives that these three organisations had to educate the public about environmental protection against pollutions, which are the results of irresponsible dumping by our communities and end up harming the marine life and environment. This has been one of the most successful cleaning campaigns at Dakota beach, located in Isipingo south of Durban. CONSOL Glass had an opportunity to educate the public about their 2050 campaign which is focusing on promoting the use of glass, which is an environmentally friendly packaging product, in an effort to save our environment.
