The Boss Of Moss And Cascais Close out

Date: 2017-10-06

Pouring spring rains made things challenging for the seventy surfers, spectators and officials on the first day of the 2017 Boss of Moss Pro Junior in Mossel Bay. The organisers in their wisdom stopped early on the day with the hope of better weather the following day.

This was the right decision as the weather cleared and Mossel Bay delivered massive onshore waves that made for some sensational surfing manoeuvres.

The local surfers from Eden and East London, namely Aya Gericke, Tayla de Coning and Zoe Steyn, as well as J Bay local Kai Woolf , dominated the event pretty much. Aya Gericke won the under 16 Boys and placed fourth in the under 18 boys final. Tayla de Coning took the under 18 Girls Final and sealed second place in the under 16 Girls division. Zoe Steyn won the under 14 Girls and placed third in the under 16 Girls Division. Kai Woolf, who is the 2016 National Junior team member placed first in the under 16 Girls Division and took third place in the under 18 Girls Division.

Under 14 Boys was won by Durban surfer Luke Thomson, under 18's honours went to Jake Elkington who is on the top of the SA Surf Tour ratings, while Kyra Bennie clinched the under 12 title.

Meanwhile on the Praia De Carcavelos in Cascais, Portugal, TheCascais Women's Prowas called OFF at the time of going to press, with only small surf on offer at Carcavelos and more swell on the way. "We have been monitoring a new swell expected to push through the afternoon here at Carcavelos but unfortunately it's not showing signs yet so we've decided to call competition OFF for the rest of the day," Rob Gunning, WSL Europe Tour Manager said. "We're coming back early tomorrow morning and are hoping to have nice conditions at the main site for potentially both the men and women's events."
