Through My Eyes

Through My Eyes

Author: Kasia Yoko
Date: 2014-06-06
All my self-pity resolved this weekend while watching a group of young girls singing, "I am your Angel" in sign language. Sitting close to the stage I was able to sense their dread as they watched their interpreter leading them into the invisible sound.

On the one hand it was the most beautiful thing I have seen and on the other, it was one of the saddest. It was beautiful because the girls really felt the lyrics, they needed to really understand and concentrate hard to follow the inaudible pace.

While on the other it was sad because they could not here this beautiful ballad between the world's best performers R Kelly and Celine Dion.

As the music started to play, the girls cast a nervous glance at their interpreter and with slight hesitation they were off, "No mountain's too high for you to climb. All you have to do is have some climbing faith.

"No river's too wide for you to make it across. All you have to do is believe it when you pray.

"And then you will see the morning will come and everyday will be bright as the sun. All of your fears cast them on me. I just want you to see.

"I'll be your cloud up in the sky, I'll be your shoulder when you cry, I hear your voices when you call me, I am your Angel,

"And when all hope is gone, I'm here. No matter how far you are, I'm near. It makes no difference who you are,I'm your Angel.

"I saw your tear drops and I heard you cry. All you need is time, seek me and you shall find. You have everything and you're still lonely. It don't have to be this way. Let me show you a better day.

"And then you will see, the morning will come. And all of your days will be bright as the sun. So all of your fears just cast them on me. How can I make you see"

Every day, we enjoy sounds: from nature sounds, to music, to a good conversation with a friend or loved one. Stop for a moment and think of yourfavouritesound. Is it the rain, or ocean waves, or a child's laughter? Now, imagine permanently losing the ability to hear your favourite sound

Imagine life absent of sound.

If at any stage we start feeling sorry for ourselves, it is so important to remember how fortunate we are and, no matter how sad it seems at that particular moment it is not as big as not being able to hear your loved one calling your name.
