Couture meets Homeware
Couture meets Homeware
"We wanted to create something that inspires and facilitates the customer's wellbeing, particularly their sleep experience, and the creation of their own sanctuaries where they can relax and de-stress." - Gavin Rajah
Local fashion design veteran Gavin Rajah has launched a homeware collection, which he promises, will make you feel as glamorous as his clothes do.
The limited edition range will be available in @Home homeware stores by the middle of November, just in time for the festive season, and if you can't wait that long, then you can pre-order your selection online.
Rajah's association with @Home has created a high-end collection of intricately embroidered linen in a neutral range of colours. This range of duvets, pillowcases, throw-cushions and other elements, adorned in the finest detail embroidery, offer sleep time luxury on a new level.
Rajah's range was inspired by cultures from around the world, including those of the Ndebele, Europe and the Middle East. He spoke to a group of selected guests at the @Home Gateway store, where he described how he used the same creative process that he does with his range of fashion garments.
Gavin Rajah, the Fashion Guru, is best known for his flair in colour use and a penchant for garments cut "on the bias", he became the first local fashion designer to make it onto the catwalks of Paris.
He launched Gavin Rajah in 2000 with a loan from his parents. His first expense was on a range to show to potential buyers and boutiques. "I started off small, working from home and outsourcing to seamstresses who would make up the designs," he recalls.
"It's not much different from fashion design at all, but what is different is the environment and the usage of the homeware items I designed."
Rajah said that he used to make homeware items at his studio for a select clientele. The retailer @Home then found out about it and approached him to collaborate with them on a unique collection.
"@home understood and embraced the vision I had, and refined it." - Gavin Rajah. A sentiment shared strongly by both Rajah and the @home team, is that a truly beautiful home is one that expresses the essence of its inhabitants. "A home should be comfortable, beautiful, and more importantly, relatable," says Gavin.
