The New SUV From Honda

The New SUV From Honda

Author: Dominic Yoko

The all-new Honda CR-V proves itself to be a real contender in the compact SUV market segment, one of the biggest segments in the industry, so to call a vehicle ‘benchmark-setting’ in this environment is really saying something. From the vehicle’s comprehensive collection of tech features and gadgets, many of which come standard to all four models, down to the ergonomics and functionality, the fifth-generation CR-V really stands out against the competition.

The new model is both wider and longer than its predecessor and that increased volume is actually quite noticeable once you step inside. The impressively spacious cabin is sophisticatedly styled with soft-touch surfaces, matt alloy accents and finely crafted stitching. The rear seats actually sink a few inches to provide a immense amount of flat storage space in the vehicle. I had the privilege of test driving the car myself and I managed to fit in the boot with my legs extended, I’m 185cm tall and my feet only came up to the back of the front seats.

The new Honda CR-V range consists of four models. All models feature Honda’s latest-generation Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), which is very well programmed and still allows the driver the satisfaction of feeling the gear change. There is also a choice between front-wheel drive and intelligent all-wheel drive.

The Comfort and Elegance models are both equipped with Honda’s 2,0-litre petrol engine with a CVT gearbox and front-wheel drive, which boasts unbelievably low consumption statistics while providing impressive power. Top speed is 192 km/h, while the combined-cycle fuel consumption figure is 7,3 litres/100 km.

Honda’s first ever turbocharged CR-V engine, the 1.5L Turbo, combined with Honda’s Real Time AWD system, allows it to reach a top speed of 200 km/h but still be able to boast a consumption rate of 7,0 litres/100 km.

The range is backed by a comprehensive five-year/200 000 km warranty, as well as a five-year/90 000 km service plan and a three-year AA Road Assist package.

To test drive the new Honda CR-V contact Honda Umhlanga on 031 - 580 7900 or visit their showroom at 15 Meridian Drive, Umhlanga Ridge.
