Christmas Fair Fund sponsors Waste2Toys workshop
That is exactly what facilitators from Singakwenza Education and Health taught caregivers and teachers from local creches recently at a workshop in Nkobongo.
The Christmas Fair Fund organised the workshop and invited teachers from the pre-schools they support to attend. These included representatives from KwaMama, Siyakhula crèche, Cindy Mzobe and care givers from Nkobongo.
The first workshop in the series focused on developing gross motor skills. Following will be courses in fine motor skills and numeracy.
Says chairlady Gaby Lyle, "The Christmas Fair Fund regards this as an ongoing project and will continue to organise and sponsor the workshops, as well as mentor and assist the teachers and carers."
Singakwenza (we can do it) is an NGO based in Hilton which focuses on low cost, high impact early education through empowerment programmes to disadvantaged communities in mainly rural areas.
They use recycling to make resources and through their workshops they teach educators to make their own toys and teaching aids using everyday waste materials. The emphasis is on early childhood development and learning through play.
The Christmas Fair Fund is one of the oldest fundraising organisations on the KZN north coast. The main fundraising event is the annual Christmas Country Fair which is scheduled for 2 and 3 November 2016 at Collisheen Estate.
