Dog Rescue to the Rescue!

Dog Rescue to the Rescue!

Date: 2022-10-27

It isn't always a 'Dog's life', for some dogs life is a painful reminder of irresponsible human behaviour. After all dogs, like all domesticated pets, should be a solid member of the family unit. Loved and cuddled and walked and pampered and treasured for their incredible loyalty and unconditional devotion.

But in the real world, some dogs are not so lucky. Their owners' circumstances that lead to them abandoning their mature dogs, is sometimes the end of one promising life. It is an unbelievable tragedy just how many adult dogs get dumped and just how difficult it is to find a new loving home for these special souls.

Ballito is lucky, it has Stefanie and Linda, who together with a number of amazing volunteers, fundraise, advertise, promote and look after over twenty abandoned dogs at Paws for Thought in Shakashead, outside Ballito. It is a labour of love, which shows on their dogs' faces when visiting time turns into playtime in the resident rose garden. "It is very important for us to raise awareness for these dogs." Stefanie tells The Bugle, "Adult dogs are much easier to adopt, they have done their whining and chewing stage and are ready to integrate into a family life. All these dogs want is someone to love and protect. You know exactly what you get when adopting an adult - we often face the argumentation that a puppy can be trained and an adult can't be shaped - so I would like to tum this into an advantage of knowing certain characteristics and the nature of a dog already when integrating it into a family."

The dogs at Paws for Thought are happy, they have big kennels with clean beds and plenty of places to run around whenever possible. But life in boarding facility is not ideal for any animal. These dogs deserve a better life, a life filled with love and affection, so that is why, Stefanie and Linda are looking for loving homes for their rescues, so they can enjoy a second chance in life.

Note; that by adopting any mature dog, you are saving the life of an animal that would most probably end up having to be put down. By becoming a volunteer, you can assist, with the care and support of these beautiful creatures.
