Ashton Debutantes and Squires Raise R126 000 for Charity

Ashton Debutantes and Squires Raise R126 000 for Charity

Date: 2014-10-03
During 2010 Ashton International College Ballito, introduced a Debutante and Squires Programme. Earlier this year, excited students in Forms 2, 3, and 4 registered for the 2014 programme. "This year we allowed the students to use initiative in the fundraising efforts, and every Debutante and Squire is congratulated on the way they embraced the programme," said Mr Joe Erasmus, Executive Head.

The programme culminated in the Awards Evening held at Braeside Weddings and Functions on Friday, 26 September 2014. At the function, these young Ashton ambassadors were recognised for their achievement in raising a whopping R126 000 for charities identified by the Debutantes and Squires. Proud family members, friends, the Management and Staff of Ashton International were there to celebrate this great achievement and the announcement of the winning Debutantes and Squires. Over the past five years, the programme has raised R314000 for charity.

This year the youngsters concentrated on raising funds and hosted shows, a civvies day, market day, a ladies high tea, raffles and various other events. This year history was made when the overall winner was a Squire. Benjamin Habig raised R28540, with Anika Botha being placed 2nd with an amount of R24183 and 3rd was Rosalita de Agrela raising R17070.

Some of the proceeds from the programme were handed over to St Lukes' Home of Healing (R10000); Tuinsig Old Aged Home (R10000); LIV (R15000); Greytown Childrens' Home (R17000); CHOC (R10000); Autism SA (R10000) and North Coast Courier Orphan Fund (R10000) . The remainder of the funds will be distributed to various organisations that have applied to the Debutantes Fund.

St Lukes' Home of healing in Kearsney, is a unique haven of peace for the mentally and handicapped on the North Coast, and Tuinsig Old Aged Home cares for the elderly and frail. Both these institutions have held a special place in the hearts of the Ashton Debutantes and Squires, as they receive limited funding from the Government, and rely on sponsorships and donations to run the facilities adequately. Greytown Childrens' Home is a safe haven for children who have been abused or abandoned. This year Autism SA was another recipient as well as CHOC (Children with Cancer) and LIV Village.

"We believe that these youngsters have over the past five years made a considerable impact on the lives of others and made a huge difference", said Mr Joe Erasmus, Executive Head.
