Through my eyes

Through my eyes

The new dawn has dawned in Japan

The culture is born and nurtured while the people are beautifully attracted to each other

I have always been fascinated with Japanese culture, their deep sense of patriotism and endless rules of social etiquette. Through the literature I read, there is a form of kindness and untold social bonding among the Japanese that is hard to find anywhere else in the world.

Japanese are world famous for their ancient wisdom and practices. Their rich culture stems from deep observations about life and people, churning out the most incredible sayings that inspire with their simplicity and truth. Each thought is a reflection of special values that are truly unique to the foreign mind and beautifully loyal to its origin.

If there were a word to describe Japan as a whole, it would be reverent. This is a nation where every action displays a culture of deference, respect and obedience, so much so that it encompasses daily life.

While I have never visited Japan, I have always had a secret wish to adventure to the Land of the Rising Sun, where traditional values are so important yet it is still such a modern and forward-thinking country and culture.

This week Japan unveiled the name for its new imperial era, which will begin on May 1 when the country's crown prince takes over from his father, who will abdicate.

The name chosen is 'Reiwa' which is written using two Chinese characters, the first meaning 'good' or 'beautiful' as well as 'order' or 'command' and the second meaning 'peace' or 'harmony'.

Peace and Order, or Orderly Peace Well either way, it describes the mentality of Japanese society perfectly!

It will replace the current era of Heisei, which means 'achieving peace', which will come to an end when Emperor Akihito becomes the first Japanese ruler to abdicate for more than 200 years on April 30th 2019.

Japan has a fascinating and multifaceted culture; on the one hand it is steeped in the deepest of traditions dating back thousands of years; on the other it is a society in a continual state of rapid flux, with continually shifting fads and fashions and technological developments that constantly push back the boundaries of the possible. This is part of what makes Japan such a fascinating country to visit.

High up on my bucket list, I feel like Japan is the kind of destination that every traveller must experience at least once in his or her lifetime.
