KwaDukuza Mayor commends the adoption of 200 schools

Date: 2013-06-20
KwaDukuza Mayor Ricardo Mthembu has praised bussiness group, Innovatech in their pledge to adopt 200 primary schools by the end of 2014 as part of the company's annual social responsibility programme.

Prenasen Dhaver, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for International commodity suppliers of fuel and energy, Innovatech has donated 50 branded jerseys to St. Christopher Primary (ward 1) at Sakhamkhanya as part of their programme.

KwaDukuza mayor together with Innovatech CEO made the official hand-over a few days ahead of his budget speech that was delivered on Thursday, outlining plans for the next financial year.

Mayor Mthembu says he is happy and impressed by the group's pledge. "With so many challenges facing government, it is important to take the business community on board to assist with basic needs as every bit of contribution in our poverty ridden community's counts.

Mthembu said the importance of partnering with private institutions cannot be overstated. "Business people play an essential role in reducing poverty and also contribute enormously to KwaDukuza's progressive economy.

"We also welcome the efforts which are aligned with government's progressive agenda as education forms part of government's highest priorities."

Mthembu said he is happy to see business people taking a stand in improving people's lives. Government alone cannot eradicate poverty; we need to work with progressive community structuctures, including the business community to improve our standard of living. We will continue and reach out to other agencies to map out other sources of funding.

Last week I delivered the municipalities budget speech, highlighting progress and plans for the next financial year, marking a major building block ahead of our vision to transform KwaDukuza into a city by 2030, as we do, we are also looking into bringing about holistic transformation in peoples lives, be it the quality of education, human settlements or the creation of better opportunities.

KwaDukuza Mayor has also been rolling out his "Dress a child Campaign" in recent times.
