How To Drive In The Rain
Date: 2016-01-15
Roads are a dangerous place to be when the rains come down. Here are some important points to keep in mind when driving in wet conditions.
Firstly, don't be a hero and slow down, maintain a safe distance between vehicles around you and take a long deep breath. You might get to your destination a little later than normal but you will get there alive.
Ensure that your lights are on, rule of thumb, if your windscreen wipers are on, you should also have your headlights on. Also, make sure not to drive so fast that rain collects on the windshield faster than the wipers can clear it away.
Avoid standing water. Its difficult to tell the depth of the water therefore avoid driving through it, if possible drive around the puddles, chances are that your engine can stall and then you'll be stuck in there. If it's a strong current, you might even get swept away with that water.
Don't tailgate. It takes longer for vehicles to stop on wet roads, so leave even more distance than usual between your car and the one ahead of you.
Plan ahead, do preventive maintenance to minimize the odds of breaking down and becoming part of an accident. Before heading out in the rain check your windshield wiper blades and your car's tyres and fluids.
Lastly pay attention and keep your eyes on the road and be aware of your surroundings, accidents are not caused by the rain. It's how we drive in the rain.
Hey everybody! Lets stay safe on the roads in 2016.
